What is PRP Vampire Facial?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma and although only recently  a beauty buzzword it has been used in sports medicine for decades.

It involves using your own blood to harvest platelets containing a numerous amount of different growth factors and stem cells and injecting it back in to your skin to amplify and stimulate the healing process of the skin. In the face this means fresh, plump, tightened and  rejuvenated skin that glows. PRP can also help to significantly improve acne  and other scars including stretch marks.

How it works?

Vampire facial, the actual procedure is not that scary. Blood is taken from the arm like a regular blood test and spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the red blood cells. At Dalya Cosmo Clinic we use special PRP tubes to ensure maximum platelet recovery.

The platelet containing plasma is then taken from the tube and injected and/or micro-needled back in to the skin. The entire process takes about an hour.

As there are no foreign chemicals or products being used there is very little to no risk of any adverse reactions.

Its main effects are to improve skin texture, elasticity and volume. A course can provide as much as a 10-15% increase in volume. In turn, this reduces fine lines, helps restore youthful fullness and healthier looking skin overall.

  • Helps to restore your skin’s natural firmness and tightness
  • Reduced depth of indented acne or chicken pox scars
  • Improved skin texture and reduced pore size
  • Lightened pigmentation marks and brighter skin tone
  • Improvement of fine lines, folds and wrinkles
  • Thickens the dermis and enhances dermal solidity
  • A fraction of the cost of heated laser technology treatments
  • One of the safest treatments available in Australia today
  • Virtually painless and minimal recovery time

Recovery time

After the procedure you can go about your day as before. The downtown is minimal but varies from person to person.

Immediately after the procedure your face will be red, almost like a mild sunburn.

Many people report the redness to have gone down by the following day but for people with more sensitive skin this can last up to 3 days.

Treatment intervals

The effects of PRP therapy are cumulative so a course of 6 treatments between 4-6 weeks is recommended to start with. This is when you will see optimum results. After this we recommend a treatment once every 6 months to maintain the results. Even without maintenance results can last up to two years.

Recovery after PRP therapy

The Vampire Facial requires little recovery time. There may be redness and some tenderness on the first day that appears much like sunburn. Occasionally some bruising may occur. The initial redness will subside on the second day, and some patients then notice some swelling and a sandpaper texture to the skin the day after treatment. By the third day, the swelling should diminish. The sandpaper texture to the skin may persist for up to a week.

Though you may notice these changes, you will not likely have any significant downtime as a result of these symptoms. You can go back to your regular daily activities after your appointment and, with a light make-up application, no one will be the wiser about your procedure.
